Schaffner marks 95 years

SIDNEY — Leonard Schaffner, of Sidney, will celebrate his 95th birthday at an open house, Oct. 17, 2015, from 1 to 5 p.m., at 1511 W. Mason Road.

He was born Oct. 17, 1920, in Sidney, son of the late Bonnie and Delmar Schaffner. He and Viola Schellenberg Schaffner were married for 45 years. Viola is now deceased.

They are the parents of two daughters, Charlene Echols, of Sidney, and Regina Long, of Greenville. Their son, Charles Gillespie, is deceased. Schaffner has 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He served in Guadalcanal and the Philippines during World War II and farmed all his life.

Schaffner is a member of the Sidney First United Methodist Church, the VFW and the Shelby County Horseshoe Club. He enjoys attending county fairs and festivals and pitching horseshoes.
