Wren re-elected JC BOE president

JACKSON CENTER — Brad Wren was re-elected president of the Jackson Center Local Schools Board of Education during its organizational meeting Monday, Jan. 9.

Kristine Mullenhour was elected vice president of the board for the year.

The board also established its regular meeting date for the year as the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the high school addition.

Also as part of its organizational meeting, the board:

• Authorized the treasurer to make advance draws as available, invest inactive funds as available, pay bills as received within appropriations, and to borrow funds as necessary to meet obligations within appropriations.

• Appointed the superintendent as purchasing agent.

• Appointed the treasurer as Title IX Compliance Officer.

• Appointed the treasurer as the board appointed designee for matters concerning public records• • Approved a motion to keep business travel mileage reimbursement at 45 cents per mile.

• Authorized the superintendent to approve professional meetings.

• Authorized the superintendent to accept resignations and make offers of employment. Both are subject to the ratification of the school board but are deemed effective at the time of the superintendent’s offer and completion of a satisfactory background check.

• Appointed the board president, superintendent and treasurer, along with Board Member Kristen Davis, to the the Finance Committee.

During the regular meeting for the month, the board:

• Approved payment to Alissa Ware of $50 dollars a match for serving as freshman volleyball coach.

• Was updated on the third-grade reading test results. Overall, Jackson Center fared well compared, unofficially, to other county schools and results were similar to the previous year.

• Went on a tour of the new building construction with Superintendent Bill Reichert prior to the meeting. He discussed the status of planning for the renovation phase of the project, in which cost estimates and plans are still being finalized for the renovation.

The next board meeting will be Feb. 20, 2017, at 7 p.m.
