PIQUA — The Edison Foundation at Edison State Community College hosted a successful inaugural Girls’ Night Out Little Black Dress Celebration of Women’s Education, raising more than $8,000 to support women’s scholarships.

More than 125 women were in attendance to support the event, April 19, at Edison State’s Piqua campus.

“This was the first year for this event, and we could not be more pleased with both the attendance and the generosity of the attendees,” said Edison State President Dr. Doreen Larson.

“This event raised over $8,000 for scholarships for women to attend Edison State, far exceeding our goal of $5,000. These funds will make the difference in the lives of women who have great potential but face immediate financial barriers to higher education.”

Upon arrival, guests were greeted by local celebrity men who also served the evening’s hors d’oeuvres and dinner. Throughout the evening, attendees had the opportunity to raise additional funds by tipping the wait staff to sing, dance and perform other unique talents. A cork pull gave the women an opportunity to take home a premier bottle of wine.

“I am so grateful to the men who volunteered as servers for this event as well as all of the donors,” added Larson. “The men stepped up and showed their support for women’s education by giving their time and various talents.”
