NEWPORT — The Newport Sportsmen Club, 6377 State Route 66, Newport, will be host its 24th annual spaghetti dinner to benefit Wilson Hospice, Feb. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The menu will include all-you-can-eat spaghetti, tossed salad, garlic bread and beverage. Carryouts will be available. Meals will be served for donations, and 100 percent of the money will be given to Wilson Hospice.

“Every year we make 100 gallons of sauce to be used for this event. The members start early in the morning the Sunday before the dinner to prepare the sauce,” said Dick Barhorst, the club’s president. “From our experience, the sauce needs to be cooked and then recooked the day of the dinner. Spaghetti sauce is one of those items that acquires a better taste if you can let it sit and then recook it before you serve it. We will spend most of the day preparing the sauce on the Sunday before the dinner. We could not do everything on the day of the dinner.”

At last year’s event, the club served almost 700 dinners. The donations totaled more than $10,400.
