Chamber Business Expo to offer job fair

SIDNEY — The Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Business Expo will feature a new component this year — a job fair.

Combining the Aug. 6 business showcase with a job fair is in response to a need voiced by many of the chamber’s membership, said Jeff Raible, chamber president.

“More often than any other observation made by business leaders do we hear that finding talented people to staff their organizations at all levels has become more difficult. Being able to attract and retain individuals at all levels has become a challenge,” Raible said. “Combining the two not only gives businesses a chance to showcase their organization, but also attract job seekers.”

The sixth Business Expo will be held from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Sidney Middle School, 980 Fair Road.

This year’s event will feature about 10 more businesses than the 2013 Expo, Raible said, with 90 businesses and organizations registered to participate. Forty-one of those also are participating in the job fair portion of the Expo.

“The membership has responded very enthusiastically about the job fair,” Raible said, “as evidenced by the 41 who are participating. We hope that by blending a job fair component into this year’s event, we can assist our members with identifying talented individuals to join and grow their organizations. At the same time, we hope that this approach will expose job seekers to the vast array of upwardly mobile career opportunities in Shelby County.”

Young people looking for jobs and career ideas are encouraged to attend the Expo, Raible said. “We’re also making a concerted effort to reach students in our marketing and promotion efforts to expose them to career opportunities available in the county.”

Those looking for job opportunities are invited to bring their resumes, Raible said. The Expo show program will list what companies are hiring and what jobs they have to fill. The program will be inserted in the Sidney Daily News on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Businesses who participate in the Expo will showcase their services, answer questions about their organization, and offer promotional items. Seven chamber members who are in the restaurant and catering business will offer samples for attendees to enjoy.

At Expo, one lucky attendee will win a gift card valued at $400 and redeemable at any Ohio State Park Resort for overnight stays, meals and park activities. In addition, high school and college students attending Expo could win one of two iPad mini 2 tablets being given away. To be eligible, the winner must visit a required number of booths as specified on the Chamber Expo Passport. Completed passports should be turned in at a designated booth. A drawing will be held near the conclusion of Chamber Expo at 6:45 p.m. and the winner need not be present to win.

The 2015 Chamber Expo is sponsored by Honda of America, Wilson Health, Ruese Insurance Agency, NKTelco, Faulkner, Garmhausen, Keister & Shenk LPA, Plastipak Packaging, Sidney Daily News, CenturyLink, and Edison Community College.

Attendance at Expo is open to the public and free of charge. For more information, call the Sidney-Shelby County Chamber at (937) 492-9122.
