Band plans patriotic concert

SIDNEY — Th Sidney Civic Band Concert will perform its America the Beautiful Concert at 7 p.m., Friday, July 1, on courtsquare.

“Our concert for this holiday weekend will be a totally patriotic concert,” said Sidney Civic Band Director Phil Chilcote. “We will be performing these well known patriotic marches: ‘The National Emblem,’ ‘Semper Fidelis,’ ‘Americans We,’ ‘U.S. Field Artillery’ and ‘The Stars and Stripes Forever.’ Also included will be ‘The Battle Hymn of the Republic,’ ‘The Armed Service Salute’ honoring our veterans, ‘America the Beautiful’ and ‘God Bless America.’”

Special guest artists will include Gregory Ashe, singing “You Raise Me Up” and “God Bless the USA,” and Del Braund, bagpiper, who will perform “Amazing Grace” with the band and a selection of his own choosing.

“This is the 15th year following the Sept. 11 tragedy in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania. This year the Sidney Civic Band has elected to do this memorial as part of our patriotic concert as we open the Fourth of July weekend with our concert on the beautiful history Shelby County courtsquare. The memorial will include the Sidney Fire Department Honor Guard who will present the bell ceremony, a memorial to firefighters, a 21-gun salute presented by the award-winning Sidney Police Department Honor Guard, the laying of a memorial wreath, the musical presentation of ‘Amazing Grace’ and the playing of taps.”

Refreshments will be available for purchase from Connection Point Church of God Relay for Life team, beginning 30 minutes prior to the concert. A Spot pie will be given away to the winner of “The Spot Pie Question,” and a tray of baked goods from Sidney’s Bob Evans restaurant will also go to a lucky fan.

In case of rain, the concert will be at Connection Point Church of God, 1510 Campbell Road.
