SIDNEY — At 6:56 p.m. on July 21, 2016, Sidney Firefighters were dispatched to 509 Forest St. for a report of wires down on a vehicle.

According to a press release from the department, upon arrival, firefighters found energized wires down on a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck. The truck was heavily involved in fire and was near a second vehicle which was a 2001 Honda Odyssey mini-van, both were in close proximity to the residence at that address. Crews assessed the situation and pulled a handline to protect the second vehicle and residence from the burning truck but did not try to extinguish the truck due to the live electrical wires.

DP&L responded to the scene and secured the power at the pole, allowing crews to extinguish the truck. The truck is owned by Frank Perry of 1860 S. Vandemark Road and was a total loss. The truck was valued at $2,000. The second vehicle sustained heat and fire damage as well, it was a 2001 Honda Odyssey owned by Nichole and John Perry of 951 N. Kuther Road; damage was estimated at $1,500, according to the press release.

It is believed that a large tree limb came down on the wires causing them to fall onto the truck during a brief wind storm that had passed through the area moments before the call came in to dispatch. No injuries from firefighters or civilians were reported.
