SIDNEY — It was a time to honor new, retiring and achievements of physicans and medical providers associated with Wilson Health.
“We are recognizing new physicans, recognizing our physicians who have retired and recognizing those with milestone achievements,” said Mark Dooley, Wilson Health president an CEO, Wednesday evening during the reception held at Shelby Oaks.
Dooley said patients are at the heart of Wilson Health’s mission but without the physicians, nothing would be possible. The physians provide high quality medical care to the Shelby County community, he said. The team who recruits the physicians plays a vital role in bringing those physicians to the community.
“We have an outstaning group of individuals here tonight,” sai Dooley.
New medical providers welcomed were Dr. Rabia Akbar, pediatrics; Dr. Michael Beyer, family practice; Chadwick Boberg, certified nurse practioner (CNP), occupational medicine; Dr. Ryan clark, cardiology; Megan Hoying, CNP, family medicine; Dr. Atiba Jackson, orthopedics; Dawn Macke, CNP, family medicine; and Dr. Rosemary McCarthy, obstetrics/gynecology.
Prior to joining Wilson Health Medical Group, Akbar practiced at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
Akbar completed a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She received her medical degree from Hamdard College of Medicine, Karachi, Pakistan followed by a pediatric internship and residency at St. Johns Children Hospital – SIU, Springfield, Illinois. She has a special interest in asthma, ADHD and childhood obesity.
Dr. Akbar is fluent in English, Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, interior design and traveling.
Beyer joined Wilson Health Medical Group and the family medicine practice of Drs. Bosslet, Justice and Eric VanFossen, PA. Beyer is board certified in family medicine. Prior to joining Wilson Health, he practiced with Adena Health System in Washington Court House. He received his medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago in Maywood, Illinois followed by a residency at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, Indiana.
In his free time, Beyer is President of the 20th Century Society USA and has a special interest in Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Art Moderne and Mid-Century.
Boberg is a certified nurse practitioner in the Occupational Health Services and Urgent Care departments. He received his bachelor of science in nursing degree from Wright State University followed by a master’s degree in family nurse practitioner from Wright State. Prior to joining Wilson Health, Boberg worked at Mary Rutan Hospital.
Clark is an invasive cardiologist who is fellowship trained in cardio-vascular medicine from Grandview Medical Center in Dayton. He specializes in diagnostic and therapeutic modalities of cardiovascular patients with a special focus on preventative medicine. Clark is board certified in internal medicine and is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Clark received his Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in biological sciences from the University of Cincinnati, in Cincinnat.
Clark practices with Sidney Cardiology- Kettering Physician Network and sees and treats patients at Wilson Health.
Hoying is a certified nurse practitioner with Wilson Health Medical Group. She recently joined the family medicine/internal medicine practices in the new Wilson Health Professional Building, Suite 100 office. She works collaboratively with the doctors and the rest of the staff seeing and treating patients in the practice.
She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Wright State University. She then went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing Degree from Otterbein University in Westerville, OH and began work as a Nurse Practitioner.
DJackson is a Board Certified Orthopedic Sports Medicine specialist. He is fellowship-trained in sports medicine. Jackson is part of the Orthopedic Associates of Southwest Ohio group that sees and treats patients at Wilson Health.
Jackson has worked as a team physician for the Detroit Lions, Western Illinois University, Southeastern Iowa Community College, and several high schools.
Macke, certified nurse practitioner (CNP), has been work-ing in collaborative effort with Dr. Matthew Vasko and the WHMG Anna Practice staff, seeing and treating patients of the practice.
As a CNP, Macke is an experienced registered nurse (RN) who has additional education and training in the specialty area of family medicine.
She started with Wilson Health in 2005 as a registered nurse. After a few years in Acute Care at the main hospital campus, she joined the WHMG Anna office where she worked as an RN for Elissa Martin, CNP.
Earlier this year, she completed her CNP degree from Maryville University, in St. Louis, Missouri and began practicing as a CNP.
McCarthy is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Prior to joining Wilson Health Medical Group, McCarthy practiced in Johnson City, Tennessee, where she cared for patients in a private practice setting. She received her medical degree from Touro University – College of Osteopathic Medicine, Vallejo, California, and completed her internship at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan, followed by a residency at St. Joseph Mercy – Oakland, Pontiac, Michigan.
McCarthy is Board Certified by the American College of Osteopathic Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
“This is one of my favorite events that Wilson Health oes each year,” said Dr. Frederick Simpson, Wilson Health chief medical officer, who recognized the milestone achievements and retiring physicians. “Why this stands out in my mind is the time and effort the physicians, CNP and physician assistants put in to get onto the medical staff here.
“But that’s only part of the story,” he said. “They joined the medical staff and they decided to stay. I think this is something we’ve missed in the past.”
Each person achieving a major milestone was given a small gift of appreciation from Wilson Health.
Employees recognized were Francis Ogbolu, urology, 5 years; Matthew Vasko, Wilson Health Medical Group – Anna Family Practice, 10 years; Joseph Anigbogu, pulmonology, and Steven Werling, proctology, both 15 years; and Virgilio Ponferrada, urology, 35 years.
The retiring physicians, said Simpson, have provided significant contributions to Wilson Health during their time on staff.
Three retiring emergency room physicians were recognized. They are: Jennifer Postlewaite, started January 1998, D. Eric Newman, started January 1988, and Fred Haussman, started March 1988.
“Dr. (M. David) Rhee spent his entire career at Sidney after he moved to the United States,” said Simpson.
“Dr. Robert Miller began at Wilson on Sept. 22, 1976,” he said. “The lives he has touched over that period of time is amazing. His patients have a tremendous appreciation for what you’ve done for their lives.”
Dr. Florencio Reyes was an internal medicine physician with the hosptial. He joined the staff on Jan. 1, 1972.
“I can’t imgine going up and down he halls and not seeing him,” said Simpson. “He will be sorely missed.”
New physician Dr. Michael Beyer, who is now seeing many of Miller’s former patients, shared a story with those in attendance. He recalled the day an older woman and her daughter came to the office to see him. As they were leaving the office, he said, he heard the woman tell her daughter, “Well it’s not Dr. Miller, but I think he’ll (Beyer) will be OK.”
