Truck crashes into Loramie Creek

HOUSTON — A pickup truck with no one inside was pulled out of Loramie Creek on Sunday evening after being submerged in eight-feet of water.

Houston Rescue and Fire Department, Sidney Fire Department and Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle in the creek in the 5000 block of Houston Road at 6:21 p.m., on Sunday. According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s report, Sherry Skeens, 50, 7741 Hughes Road, Houston, was traveling west on Houston Road when she went off the left side of the roadway and drove directly into the river just south of the bridge. The truck became submerged in the water, but Skeens was able to swim to the bank. The truck sustained damage from the water and the recovery.

According to Sidney Daily News partner, WDTN-TV 2, Skeens claimed the truck had been stolen. Sherry Skeens is not the registered owner of the vehicle; it is registered to Caleb Skeens, 7741 Hughes Road, Houston.

This was the second call to this area on Sunday. Earlier in the day, at 7:49 a.m., Houston Rescue and Shelby County Sheriff Deputies responded to the report of a female covered in mud walking in the 5000 block of Houston Road. Skeens said she had been was fishing with her family at Loramie Creek, and after her children went back to the house said she fell down the steep bank and climbed her way out through the mud. She was transported by Houston Rescue to Wilson Health for evaluation.
