SIDNEY — Aggravated murder charges have been filled in the death of Sidney man.

According to Capt. Jerry Tangeman, Sidney Police Department, officials were looking for Troy Delano McRae Jr., 34, who allegedly killed Lance Johnson on March 14 at Johnson’s residence at 402 N. Miami Ave., Apt. B3. McRae Jr. was arrested late Wednesday night in Lima, reports Police Chief Will Balling.

Lima Police Officers arrested McRae Jr. at approximately 10:07 p.m. Wednesday. He was arrested without incident at an undisclosed location in Lima. Investigators from the Sidney Police Department met with Lima Law enforcement officers shortly after McRae Jr.’s arrest. McRae Jr. was turned over to Sidney Police and transported back to Sidney. He is currently incarcerated at the Shelby County Jail.

The investigation began on March 14, when officers were dispatched to Johnson’s apartment for a check welfare. When they arrived on the scene, they located Johnson deceased on the floor of the living room. During their investigation, officers discovered signs that a fight and ransacking had occurred.

With the assistance of the Shelby County Coroner’s investigator, it was determined that Johnson had been stabbed multiple times. In the days following the murder, a number of leads were investigated which led investigators to McRae Jr. A witness provided information that McRae was seen shortly after the murder and he had a bandage around his left hand. McRae Jr. allegedly confided to the witness that he stabbed Johnson.

McRae Jr. made further admissions about the case about details only the person responsible for the murder would know, said Tangeman in the press release.

As a result of this investigation an arrest warrant was issued through the Sidney Municipal Court for one count of aggravated murder.
