SIDNEY — Raise the Roof for the Art and Sidney Alive are collaborating to bring the Backstage Block Party to downtown Sidney. What is the Backstage Block Party? The Backstage Block Party is a three-month concert series being held the last Saturday of June, July and August in the back parking lot of the Historic Sidney Theatre. The concerts have free admission and feature award-winning entertainment, food trucks and a beer and wine tent.

“I am looking forward to the premier season of the Backstage Block Party, and the great entertainment it will bring to downtown Sidney! It is my hope that the Backstage Block Party will become something that brings visitors and community members together as we continue to envision the future of our downtown,” said Mayor Mike Barhorst.

The first concert of 2017 will get the town rocking on June 24th with headliner ZoSo; the Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience featuring The Worn Flints, a three-piece Rock group from Columbus, Ohio. Their music draws influences from Blues, Psychedelic Rock, and Folk, with a focus on abstract song structures and extended heavy instrumentation.

Some music goers prefer the lonestar feeling to classic rock, so taking the stage on July 29 for the second Backstage Block Party is the country legend Leroy Parnell featuring Christian Kaser, A native of Northwest Ohio, Christian Kaser is making waves and is poised for success with his soon to be released single, That’s What’s Up. Recently, he has been opening for major label artists such as Chase Bryant, Colt Ford, Dan + Shay and Sam Hunt.

To continue the summer celebration on Aug. 26, organizers welcome the alternative rock, double platinum winning group Blessid Union of Souls featuring Jared Mahone, the Columbus, Ohio, native released his latest album, Mixtape, was created from a crowd-focused and crowd-inspired song-a-week writing project where his fan base chose the track listing from the completed catalog. Jared also has performed in downtown Sidney in 2014.

“We wanted to give the community a taste of what’s to come in terms of events at the theater and downtown Sidney,” said Raise the Roof for the Arts Director Sarah Barr. “Our goal this year is for the community to come together and connect. What better way to do just that than through a live musical performance, so we chose popular music genres that would welcome all ages.”

Community sponsors supporting the Backstage Block Party includes the city of Sidney, Wilson Health, Airstream, Sidney Body Carstar, Lochards Inc., TAMFM, Western Ohio Cut Stone, Westerheide Construction, Edison State Community College, Frickers, The Hampton Inn of Sidney and Lowes Home Improvement.

“Together we can define who we are and what we want to be for future generations,” said Barr.
