AAA now offers home, auto, life insurance

SIDNEY — AAA, the automotive association, has offered insurance to its members and others for decades, but it was difficult for AAA Shelby County members to take advantage of it.

That has changed. There is now a dedicated AAA insurance agent in the Sidney office, and while she’s new to AAA, she’s not new to insurance or the AAA building at 920 Wapakoneta Ave. Amanda Hayden, of Sidney, had spent 22 years at the same location, working in the insurance office of Bob Schweitzer. Schweitzer retired earlier this year and the office was closed.

“That gave us the opportunity to hire Amanda,” said Deborah Barga, of Versailles, CEO of AAA Shelby County. “We’re pretty excited about this.”

Hayden graduated from Sidney High School and Edison State Community College. She handles auto, life and home insurance products now and in the near future, will add health insurance products. She has been licensed since 1994.

“It’s personal and it’s local,” Hayden said of AAA insurance. “I expect you can get the same level of service on the insurance side (of AAA) that you get in road assistance and travel. It’s an added benefit to members. You can get insurance, travel needs and roadside assistance all at one place.”

The insurance is offered to nonmembers, too, but members get a discount on premiums. According to Barga, AAA Shelby County has just under 15,000 members.

“We are confident she will meet the needs of our AAA members and insurance clients. Amanda has proven to be reliable, knowledgeable and consistent in her multi-line field of insurance,” Barga said.

“I have made a lifetime of relationships in the Sidney area and look forward to making more here at AAA,” Hayden said.

She has been busy getting the word out about the new offering here. There is a billboard featuring her photo, AAA participated in Friday’s Winter Wonderland Parade and Hayden has been meeting members, apartment building managers and bank managers. Soon, she’ll begin to visit car dealers and auto repair shops. In the spring, AAA will host an after-hours reception for Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce members.
