ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Three people were killed — including a Shelby County native — in a one-vehicle crash early Friday, Feb. 5, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

According to Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Tanner Tixier, David Bowie, 27, of Fort Bliss, Texas, and formerly of Shelby County, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. He was the driver of the vehicle.

Teashieva Slowman, 36, and Sondra Evans, 28, were also killed in the accident.

David Griffin, 35, also stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, was in the front passenger seat. He was injured in the accident. Both Bowie and Griffin are in the U.S. Army.

Another passenger, Ivy Sanderson, 27, is in critical condition following the accident.

According to Tixier, the Northeast Area Command officers were dispatched to a single vehicle accident at Pennsylvania and Osuna. Three occupants of the vehicle died from their injuries.

“Traffic Unit investigators diligently worked the scene that morning and then conducted follow up interviews with one of the surviving passengers,” said Tixier in a press release.

The investigation found that David Bowie and David Griffin met up with the three female passengers in the parking lot of the Dirty Bourbon. Bowie was the driver and Griffin was the front seat passenger. The three females were all in the back seat.

Both men were wearing seat belts, none of the women were wearing seat belts.

“Bowie, who was showing off, was traveling north on Pennsylvania in excess of 100 mph,” said Trixier. “The vehicle blew through the T-intersection and into the open field between Osuna and the golf course.”

Evans, Slowman and Sanderson were all ejected from the vehicle.

Two alcohol containers were found on scene, said Tixier, and speed and alcohol were contributing factors to the crash.

Arrangements for Bowie are pending at Adams Funeral Home, Sidney.
