PIQUA — Edison State Community College recognized two outstanding employees at its annual spring convocation ceremony, Jan. 11, in the Robinson Theater at the Piqua campus.

“The Employee of the Semester Award is meant to create a culture that recognizes employees and celebrates accomplishments based upon Edison State’s five-year strategic master plan, which focuses on sustaining positive employee engagement,” said Kara Myers, coordinator of employee engagement and talent acquisition. “These employees make a difference to Edison State and members of the campus community, go above and beyond expectations, excel as team players and strive to demonstrate the college’s core values.”

Dr. Vivian Blevins, adjunct professor of communications, and Harold Hitchcock, maintenance coordinator, were named employees of the 2015 fall semester at the annual ceremony. Myers presented each of the recipients with a plaque and a designated parking space.

In addition to her passion for instructing, Blevins, who holds a Doctor of Philosophy in education, was commended for her tireless work on behalf of military veterans, both inside and outside the walls of Edison State. Blevins, of Piqua, has prompted renewed gratitude throughout the community for the men and women who are currently serving or have served our country. She has also graciously and poignantly provided reminders that every one of us owes our lifestyle and personal freedoms to these individuals. Blevins excels as a team player by incorporating faculty, staff and students to bring her initiatives to life.

Hitchcock, of Covington, was nominated based upon his demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude even throughout the most challenging situations. Hitchcock is dedicated to his career, often working overtime and making himself readily available to handle job duties no matter the time of day or night. Hitchcock’s positive attitude has set the tone for the rest of the maintenance staff, influencing an overall positive demeanor and professional level of support.
