Russia school board meets

RUSSIA — The Russia Board of Education met Wednesday night for their regular November meeting.

The board accepted a donation of $496 from Russia Coalition of Academics to be used for the COSI Assembly.

The board employed for the 2016-17 school year on an as needed basis:

• Richard Gold, Kaylee Hartrum, Kimberly Leach, and Gene Cordonnier as substitute teachers at a rate of $85 per day.

• Angie Petty, Carrie Heuing and Rodney Counts as after varsity boys basketball game custodians at a rate of $20 per hour.

• Amber Cordonnier as a classified substitute.

The board also approved Nikole Shefbuch and Denise Dahlinghaus as volunteer bowling coaches for the 2016-17 school year.

The audit committee met at the start of the meeting to review the status of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) reporting for the 2016 fiscal year. They also noted the state audit for fiscal years 15 and 16 will commence within the next couple of months.

Principal Brian Hogan reported on parent-teacher conferences as well as gave a review of the first quarter. Conferences were well attended and the first quarter is complete with no issues, he said.

Superintendent Steven Rose updated the board on the status of the summer window project. The bids have been opened and the cost is coming in less than anticipated.

The board set their 2017 organizational meeting for Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. with their regular meeting to immediately follow.
