HOUSTON — Hardin-Houston Local Schools kindergarten registration for the 2017-2018 school year will be April 6 and 7 at teh school.
Children who will be five years old on or before Aug. 1 will be eligible for kindergarten. Parents should schedule screenings by appointment at www.hardinhouston.org for either 8 a.m., 10 a.m. or 1 p.m.
During registration, children will meet their teachers and be screened for speech, hearing, vision and develpmental readiness.
Parents should take birth certificates and immunization records for the children entering kindergarten and legal documents if custody is involved.
“Parents should be aware of legislation which mandates attendance in and successful completion of kindergarten before a child enters first grade. This law underscores the importance of children’s being ready for kindergarten before they enroll. Research has shown children who turn 5 during the spring or summer months may be at risk in kindergarten simply because of their age. Hardin-Houston offers an all-day, every-day Young Fives program that is designed to help children prepare for the rigors of the regular kindergarten classroom. If you have a child who fits this description, we encourage you to bring him/her to screening,” said school officials in a release.
