SIDNEY — The Shelby County Coin Club has awarded scholarships to two local high school seniors.
Ian Humphrey, of Sidney High School, was awarded a $500 scholarship; Christen Ware, of Jackson Center High School, received $200 scholarship. Each winner also received an American Eagle coin.
The coin club received 25 scholarship applications from graduating students.
The two scholarships were awarded at the April 13 during a coin club meeting in the Sidney High School cafeteria.
Humphrey ranks fifth in his class of 240 and has a grade point average of 4.43. He earned a score of 30 on the ACT test. He pays soccer, is vice-president of the National Honor Society, vice-president of the senior class, plays saxophone and cello and volunteers for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He plans to study for a Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Toledo.
Ware is the valedictorian of her class. She plays volleyball and basketball, belongs to a church youth group, has participated in several mission trips and is active in other areas of the school. She will attend Ohio Northern University to study nursing.
