ANNA — The Anna FFA held their annual banquet on March 18 with more than 300 members and guests in attendance. The FFA develops and improves its students’ leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural experience and education. The officer team put together a presentation that reflected the FFA chapter and its activities as well recognize the success of its members.

The chapter distributed several awards. Among them were fruit sale awards. This year the chapter generated about $67,000 in fruit, nuts, barbeque sauce, cheese, half-hog raffle tickets, and beef jerky. The top three sellers of the chapter were Riley Huelskamp, Kaitlyn Wells, and Gage Wannemacher. Each received a plaque for their efforts.

This year’s Star Shop Award was given to Gage Wannemacher. He has been a great help to Tim Zimpfer and Sarah Heilers throughout the year. He went above and beyond the rest of the students in the class by completing multiple projects, including: a burned step with metal edging and sand grip on top, a wooden table for Provico, a walnut chest with intricate designs burned into it, and a wooden quote decoration. His continued hard work, from cleaning the shop to always staying on task has shown others what it truly means to be a great star shop award recipient and FFA member.

The Star Greenhand Award is a prestigious award that is granted to a first-year member of the FFA who has been most active in the chapter’s activities. This year, Lauren Thornhill received this award because she has excelled in participation of career development events and has stellar plans for her Supervised Agricultural Experience. She has been a great example for the other Greenhand members of our chapter, and she has allotted much of her time to this organization.

The Star Chapter Award is another important award that is given to a member that has exhibited a tremendous involvement and growth through their FFA experiences. Amber Zimpfer and Aubrey Hoying received the award this year. They were given this special award because of their outstanding SAEs and their continued involvement in the FFA. Aubrey works on her family’s dairy farm, and Amber is working for her dad and uncle on the family farm as well.

They have helped the FFA tremendously by contributing to various elements in our chapter. They have assisted the Anna FFA by harvesting the FFA crop plot and helping at various FFA activities, including the Alumni breakfast. Their contributions are greatly appreciated.
