Foundation awards scholarships

SIDNEY — Three funds administered by the Community Foundation of Shelby County recently awarded scholarships.

The Elaine Laughlin Scholarship Fund awarded $1,000 each to Sidney High School graduates Chloe Heins and Victoria Martin. Heins is the daughter of Paul and Lori Heins. She is an English major at the Ohio State University. Martin is enrolled in the nursing program at Wright State University. She is the daughter of Michael Martin.

Alexander Willman was awarded $1,000 from the William and Patsy Zorn Veterans Scholarship, which is open to county residents who have a close relative who is currently serving in or is a veteran of the U.S. military. Willman, the son of Rhonda and Gordon Buchler, is a Sidney High School graduate. He is pursuing a biomedical biology degree from the University of Cincinnati.

Recipients of the 2015 Herbert and Antoinette Schlater Scholarship have been named. The $2,500 scholarships are awarded to the children of employees of Sidney Electric Company and Area Energy and Electric Inc.

Alexander Willman, a graduate of Sidney High School and son of Rhonda and Gordon Buchler of Sidney, is attending the University of Cincinnati, where he majors in biomedical biology. His father is employed by Area Energy and Electric Inc.

Katie McCray, a graduate of Lima Shawnee High School, is the daughter of David McCray, of Lima, an employee of Sidney Electric Co. She attends the Ohio State University, majoring in health sciences.

The Herbert and Antoinette Schlater Scholarship was established by the founders of both the Sidney Electric Company and Area Energy and Electric Inc. in Sidney.
