DAYTON — The Greater Dayton Area Faith Community Nurse/Health Ministers Network will hold its quarterly meeting on Feb. 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Miami Valley Hospital South, Education Center Conference Room, 2359 Miami Valley Drive, Dayton, Ohio.

The continuing education presentation “Motivational Interviewing” will be led by Lindsey Riemann, SBIRT Training Officer State of Ohio MHAS. This two-hour training provides participants with an overview of motivational interviewing, an evidence based communication style that encourages behavior change. This training will briefly discuss the use of motivational interviewing in health care and more specifically in screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment.

At the conclusion learners will have an understanding of the Spirit of MI and be able to identify and utilize MI skills, recognize change talk and enhance interactions with patients by recognizing patients’ motivations to change. Participants will further develop patient interactions through the use of decisional balance and ambivalence amplification tools. Two hours of continuing education are available.
