Brookville running game too much for Anna

BROOKVILLE — The Anna Rockets couldn’t stop Brookville’s punishing ground attack, or muster much on offense in dropping a 21-0 verdict in non-league high school football action Saturday afternoon.

The game was postponed because of heavy rain and lightning Friday night.

Anna drops to 0-2 with the loss and opens Midwest Athletic Conference play Friday night at Fort Recovery, which is 2-0 after beating county teams Lehman and Fort Loramie the first two weeks.

Brookville is now 2-0.

The Rocket defense gave up a lot of rushing yards, over 400 in the game, but didn’t allow the Blue Devils into the endzone much. As a result, Anna trailed just 6-0 at the half.

However, the home team added scores in the third and fourth quarters to pull away

Brookville had one back, Harry Hall, go over 100 yards in the game and another finish with just under 100.

BELLEFONTAINE — Sidney’s offense was pretty much unstoppable Friday night in its 35-13 win over neighboring rival Bellefontaine in non-league football.

The Yellow Jackets, 1-1, had two players rush for over 100 yards against the Chieftains. Sophomore running back Isaiah Bowser carried the ball 23 times for 123 yards and a touchdown, and freshman Andre Gordon, who saw a lot of action at quarterback, added 105 yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns.

The Jackets sprinted to a 21-0 lead in the first half after Gordon scored on runs of seven and 18 yards, and Damien Duff caught a two-yard TD pass from Jack Feazel.

The last three minutes of the half was wild, with Bellefontaine scoring with 3:02 left, Sidney answering on an 18-yard run by Bowser, but the Chieftains scoring again with only :13 left to make it 28-13 at the half.

But Sidney’s defense shut out the Chieftains in the second half and when Bowser caught a 55-yard scoring strike from Gordon with 7:13 remaining, it was over.

Allec Gordon had four receptions for 123 yards to lead in that category.

Sidney finished with 410 total yards to 243 for the Chieftains.

The Jackets host West Carrollton Friday.

Cavs fall to 0-2

In Lehman’s 31-13 loss to the Minster Wildcats, the Cavaliers again struggled on offense, with 96 rushing yards on 35 attempts, less than three yards per carry. And through the air came just 92 additional yards.

Minster, on the other hand, rolled up 424 yards in total offense and it was well-balanced. The Wildcats had 208 yards on the ground and talented quarterback Josh Nixon was 17-for-27 for an additional 216 yards.

Evan Huelsman rushed for 103 yards on 18 carries to lead the Wildcats, Jacob Stechschulte added 57 and Jared Huelsman 53.

Bryce Schmiesing and Jacob Dues both caught four passes, with each catching one scoring toss.

Nixon has now thrown for eight touchdowns in his first two games.

The Cavaliers try to get their first win Saturday night when they host Graham at Piqua. Minster puts its 2-0 mark on the line Friday night at Coldwater in a big Midwest Athletic Conference game.

FORT LORAMIE — Fort Loramie also found the going tough on offense, totaling just 101 net yards against the 2-0 Fort Recovery Indians Friday night.

Loramie had just nine yards rushing and 92 passing in falling to 0-2 on the season heading into another home game Friday night against Bluffton.

Recovery had 201 yards rushing and 136 passing for 337 total in the game. The Indians’ Kyle Schroer rushed for 104 yards on 16 carries.
