Public invited to ‘Rock the Difference’ on May 6

To the editor:

This letter is a long time coming. Nina Byler wrote to the Sidney Daily News on March 17, 2017, and I couldn’t agree more. The opioid and heroin “epidemic” is a catastrophic problem, both locally and nationwide.

There is an old adage that “it takes a community to raise a child.” In the case of the drug/opioid problem, that adage is also true.

As a community, all people must strive to make a difference. When one observes a problem in your neighborhood or elsewhere that you know just isn’t right, call the police. Write down descriptions, time, place, date and license numbers. Be observant, be a good Christian and a good citizen.

Our schools try to instill good morals and family values in our children and grandchildren. Our churches and pastors do the same. Personally, I hope parents are teaching children right from wrong in the home, but I know that’s not always the case and we all need to pray for our children’s safety and appropriate teaching.

We were recently informed that Dayton ranks as the third highest city in our nation with its incidences of drug overdoses. We were appalled to hear that statistic, but not so surprised. Dayton is a short 40 miles down Interstate 75 — also termed the “drug highway.”

Our law enforcement officers can’t be everywhere; therefore, it’s imperative that citizens do their part.

I’m so proud to invite all citizens to an event at Shelby County Fairgrounds on May 6. “Rock the Difference” is an anti-drug event to be held annually. All money raised goes toward drug treatment and rehab in the area. For only $5 admission, it’s a very enjoyable day for a great cause. From about 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., there will be speakers, food vendors and live music. All musicians volunteer their time and talent for this much needed event. My son Aaron Frohna started “Rock the Difference” in 2016 because he saw the need, and it is his desire to make a difference.

May God bless us all and bless Sidney. When we all work together, this city can once again be a safer place to live and protect those we love.

We hope to see many of our citizens at “Rock the Difference”!

Victoria Frohna
