Staff report

HOUSTON — Thanks to a huge upset in another County game, and their own ability to dominate a team that took them to overtime earlier in the season, the Fort Loramie Lady Redskins are the outright County champions in girls basketball.

They routed Houston 62-33 Saturday at Houston, and while that was going on, Jackson Center was springing a 54-44 upset on Anna in action at Jackson.

As a result, Fort Loramie finishes alone in first at 11-1 and Anna in second at 10-2.

Overall, Loramie is now 17-4 and completes regular-season play at home against Marion Local Tuesday. Houston’s regular season is over at 9-13, and the Lady Wildcats finish 5-7 in the league.

When the two met earlier at Loramie, the Lady Redskins needed an overtime to win 43-38. This time, it was all Loramie.

The Lady Redskins led by nine after a quarter and the margin remained that way at the half. But after three, it was up to 19.

Jessica Boerger had quite a line on the state sheet — 19 points, seven assists, five rebounds, five steals and three blocked shots. And she was 8-for-11 from the line.

Holly Frey had 16 points and seven rebounds, and Olivia Quinter came off the bench to finish with eight points and six rebounds, four on the offensive end.

Houston got 11 from Macey Stang.

The league championship was the 23rd for Fort Loramie in the 45 years of the girls basketball program. It was the 12th for Siegel, one more than longtime coach Jane Poeppelman.

EDITOR’S NOTE: In Friday’s paper, it was stated that Loamie’s Carla Siegel became the all-time winningest coach in Fort Loramie girls basketball history with her 340th career win. She actually became the all-time winningest coach in all sports at the school.
