Minster edges Crestviewin D-4 district semifinals

COLDWATER — Minster scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and Josh Nixon made it stand up for a 2-1 victory over Crestview in the Division 4 District semifinals Wednesday night at Coldwater.

The victory advanced the Wildcats at 18-9 to the district championship Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Coldwater against top-seeded Fort Recovery.

The Wildcats got a route-going effort from Nixon, who scattered six hits, with two strikeouts and two walks. Crestview pushed a run across in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1, and then forced Nixon to work out of a big jam in the seventh. Crestwiew got runners on the corners with one out, but Nixon got a strikeout and a ground out to preserve the lead and the victory.

Minster’s two-run fourth started with Jon Niemeyer getting a single, then moving up on an error and a balk. Alex Lehmkuhl then singled him in for a 1-0 lead. Ben Stubbs then put down a bunt and Crestview was not able to get an out.

Lehmkuhl and Stubbs were sacrifriced to second and third, and Jared Huelsman lifted a sacrifice fly plenty deep enough to score Lehmkuhl with what proved to be the winning run.

Minster got two hits from Lehmkuhl in outhitting the Knights 7-6.

Tuesday

Anna 4, Northmont 3

ENGLEWOOD — Anna played at Northmont Tuesday ahead of their sectional final game at the same location on Wednesday, and the outcome was the same.

The Rockets scored three times in the first two innings, then scored in the top of the seventh for a 4-3 win over the Division 1 Thunderbolts.

County Player of the Year Luke Albers was 3 for 4 with a double, Aidan Endsley drove in two runs, and Drew Boyd went 52/3 innings and allowed just two hits in getting the win.

Anna plays Roger Bacon today at 5 in the district finals at Kenton Ridge.
