Sidney Post 217 falls to Ottawa

SIDNEY — The Sidney Post 217 legion baseball team was defeated by Ottawa Legion 10-2 Wednesday at Custenborder Field.

After a scoreless first inning, Ottawa jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Ottawa got the rally started with a single, then reached on a hit batter and an error. Ottawa then followed with another single, a stolen base and a single to push across the third and final running of the inning.

Ottawa would added another run in the fourth inning on a single, a sacrifice and an RBI single.

Already up 4-0, Ottawa would blow the game open with a five-run sixth inning. All five runs were scored on just three singles, as Sidney gave up three walks and committed an error in the inning.

Down 9-0, Post 217 would score one of its two runs in the game when Kyle Subler, Cam Clark and Kyle Noble all singled. Sidney would add another in the eighth thanks to two hit batters and an Ottawa errors.

Ottawa would end the scoring by pushing across a final run in the top of the ninth inning.

Clark led Post 217 with three singles, while Subler and Noble each added a pair of singles. Those three accounted for seven of Sidney’s 10 hits in the game.

Isaiah Beaver and Jacob Peters split the game on the mound for Sidney, combining for five strike outs, five walks and 12 hits.

With the loss, Sidney fell to 4-5. Post 217 hosted Napoleon Thursday night at Custenborder Field. Results from that game were not available in time for this edition of the Sidney Daily News.

Beginning today, Post 217 will be competing in the Ottawa Tournament.

Sidney opens the tournament at 3:30 p.m. today against Pickerington Post 283 at Bluffton University. Post 217 will play at 3 p.m. Saturday against Findlay Post 3 at Bluffton.

The tournament semifinals will be played Sunday at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Field in Ottawa. The consolation games will be played at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Bluffton.

The championship game will be played at 3 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Field in Ottawa.

The Ottawa Tournament will be broadcast over the Internet at Zsportslive.com.
