The Southwest District Board held its 23rd annual Scholar-Athlete Reception recently in Dayton, where it presented monetary awards and recognition to 40 students from the district.

Special scholarships were presented by the board honoring past district board members with 12 or more years or service to the district.

Among the recipients were several county and area athletes.

Southwest District recipients included Peyton Esser of Jackson Center and Caroline Heitmeyer of Lehman.

In addition, Rachel Schmitmeyer of Fort Loramie won the George Rise Honorary Scholarship, and Collin Peters of Versailles the Gene Klaus Honorary Scholarship.
