SIDNEY — The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA will hold its 12th annual YMCA 5K Run/Walk on September 10 starting at 8:30 a.m., with race-day registration beginning at 7:30 a.m.
This year’s 5K features a course where participants will start and finish at the YMCA and travel along residential streets.
The overall top male and female finishers will receive a trophy and the top three male and female finishers in each age division will receive an award. It will also include a one-mile fun run starting at 8 a.m.
Awards, refreshments and music will be at the finish line.
New for this year is the Corporate Challenge. Corporations are encouraged to have their employees participate as a team. There will be special prizes for the Corporate Challenge participants including the corporation with the most participants, top 3 corporate male and female finishers, and fastest corporate overall team time.
This is the 10th year that the YMCA 5K race has been a part of the Shelby County 5K Tour. All participants who compete in at least five of the 12 races in the Shelby County Tour will be awarded a specially designed drawstring bag. Participants who complete eight races in the Tour will receive a premium water bottle and those who complete 11 races will receive a Tour half-zip pullover.
Those who participate in any of the 5k races involved in the Tour are automatically eligible to compete in their age categories for additional awards. Point totals for competition in each age category can be tracked online at www.shelbycounty5ktour.com.
All proceeds from the YMCA 5K will go to the YMCA Community Partners Campaign, which provides financial assistance for YMCA membership, child care fees and program fees for individuals in Shelby County.
