Sidney spikers win 8th straight

The Sidney High volleyball team hosted Greater Western Ohio Conference foe Stebbins on Thursday, hoping for its eighth win in a row.

And that’s just what happened, with the Lady Jackets winning 3-0 on scores of 27-25, 25-13, 25-14.

It put Sidney at 5-4 in the league and 9-5 overall heading to Lima Bath on Monday.

Hanna Wiford served 12 straight points in the second game and finished with four aces, and Carrie Nuss and Kiana Calvert had three aces apiece.

Amanda Thomas had 12 kills, Celena Taborn nine and Emily Tolbert seven. Taborn had four blocks and Thomas 3.

Nuss had 29 assists, Calvert had nine digs and Nuss and Alina Kindle added seven digs.

The Sidney junior varsity won 25-12, 25-11.

Faith Bockrath and Arielle Snider had four aces each and Payton Boshears three.

JC 3, Russia 0

JACKSON CENTER — Jackson Center moved one game closer to the County volleyball championship with a 3-0 victory over visiting Russia in action Thursday night.

The Lady Tigers won by scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-16, and in doing so upped their record on the year to 13-0, including a perfect 7-0 in County play, good enough for a two-game lead over second-place Fort Loramie. They return to action Saturday at home against Lehman.

Russia drops to even in the league at 4-4 and is now 6-8 overall heading to the Minster Invitational Saturday.

Kamryn Elchert handed out 26 assists and also had 16 digs and three ace serves to lead the Lady Tigers.

Cassie Meyer had 13 kills and 17 digs for Jackson, and Alicia Kes

sler had 11 kills.

Christen Ware had five kills and three blocks, Vanessa Winner six kills and seven digs, and Camryn Hoehne eight assists, eight digs and two aces.

For the Lady Raiders, Whitney Pleiman had 25 digs and two ace serves and Cameo Wilson led in kills with five.

Jenna Cordonnier had 13 assists, Chloe Sherman 10 digs and Chris Gaerke added three blocks.

Jackson also won the JV game 2-0.

County standings — Jackson Center 7-0, 13-0; Fort Loramie 6-2, 10-5; Anna 5-3, 8-7; Fairlawn 4-3, 8-6; Russia 4-4, 6-8; Botkins 1-7, 4-9; Houston 0-8, 2-12.

Anna 3, Houston 0

HOUSTON — Anna won its second straight Thursday, beating Houston 3-0 in County volleyball action.

The scores were 25-12, 25-2, 25-15 and the win put the Lady Rockets at 5-3 in the league and 8-7 overall with unbeaten Jackson Center coming to town next Tuesday.

Houston drops to 0-8 and 2-12 and will return to action Tuesday at Botkins in County play.

Anna got 17 kills from Krista Gehret and 13 from Ashley Landis. Lexi Wells set them up with 38 assists.

Carly Becker and Rachel Shoemaker had 13 digs apiece, Kelsey Meyer served three aces, and Emma Meyer had three solo blocks.

For the Lady Wildcats, Jess Monnier had five kills, Sarah Monnier four kills, Alyssa Kemp had 11 digs and Olivia Bowser eight digs. Jenna Green added six digs.

Anna also won the junior varsity game 25-10, 25-10.

Loramie 3, Botkins 0

FORT LORAMIE — Fort Loramie got back on track after Tuesday’s loss and whipped visiting Botkins 3-0 in County volleyball Thursday night.

The scores were 25-15, 25-14, 25-17.

Loramie goes to 6-2 in the County and 10-5 overall and is back in action Tuesday at Fairlawn.

Botkins falls to 1-7 in league play and is now 4-9 overall heading into the Minster Invitational Saturday.

Fort Loramie was led by Caleigh Barhorst with 13 kills and Sara Stang with 10.

Sophia Albers set them up with 25 assists, and Taylor Ernst had 13 digs. Albers also had seven digs.

For the Lady Trojans, Sarah Bergman had five kills and 20 digs, and Jenna Pitts had 10 assists.

Loramie won the JV game 2-0.

Sidney 3, Stebbins 0

Sidney won at home over Stebbins in three games Thursday.

Scores and stats were not available by deadline.

It was Sidney’s eighth straight victory and puts the Lady Jackets at 9-5.
