The Sidney High girls tennis team won 4-1 over Elida Monday on a day where three of the five matches lasted over two hours each.

“We seemed to be evenly matched at all positions, and our girls played very competitively and were able to tough it out for wins at two and three singles, and both doubles,” said Sidney coach Emily Scheu.

The win gave Sidney 10 on the season.

At second singles, Hailey New won 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, and at third singles, Naomi Riegel won 6-1, 7-5.

At first doubles, Auanna Edens and Caroline Gallimore won 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5 in tiebreaker), and at second doubles, Kathryn Saunders and Janae Drees won 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).

At first singles, Madison Frank won the first set 6-0, but lost the next two 6-0, 6-2.

In junior varsity matches, Sara Gibson, Mara Hecht, Jenna Rice and Zoe Crist all won at doubles.

Wapak 5, Lehman 0

Lehman lost to Wapakoneta 5-0 Monday.

Claire Larger lost 6-2, 7-5 to a Wapak player who is the No. 1 singles seed in the upcoming Lima Division 2 sectional. “She played very well,” said coach Tim Ungericht.

“Wapakoneta has lost only one match the last two years,” added Ungericht. “Our girls played very well.”
