NEW BREMEN — New Bremen junior Paige Jones is the new single-season kills leader for the state of Ohio.

In her final regular-season game Thursday night, a five-set thriller over St. Henry, the junior who has already committed to play at the University of Michigan, had 35 kills in her team’s 3-2 victory over the visiting Lady Redskins.

Going into the game, she had 625 this season and needed just 25 more to tie the state record for kills of 650. She now has 660 this season, with tournament play still remaining. And the Lady Cardinals are the No. 1 seed for the upcoming sectional.

She led the Lady Cardinals to a 25-20, 18-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-11 victory over St. Henry, giving Bremen a final regular-season record of 19-3 and a Midwest Athletic Conference mark of 6-2, good enough for third behind co-champs Marion and Versailles.

Jones also had 17 digs, Rachel Kremer 12 kills, Julie Goettemoeller seven kills, and Madison Pape 46 assists.

New Knoxville 3, Recovery 1

New Knoxville defeated Fort Recovery in MAC action 3-1 on scores of 25-19, 21-25, 26-24, 25-21.

The Lady Rangers finish 3-6 in the conference and 11-11 overall.

Highlighting the victory was senior Kenzie Schroer being recognized for her 1,000th career dig, which she achieved inthe recent Van Wert Invitational.

She also finished with a triple-double of 14 kills, 27 assists and 16 digs against Recovery, and Shayna Bierlein added 18 kills and 16 digs.

Faith Homan had 30 digs and Ashlyn Miller 15, Tasia Lauth added seven kills and Taylor Doty finished with five.

Tie for first

Meanwhile, the Midwest Athletic Conference wound up in a tie for the championship thanks to an upset by Coldwater Thursday night.

Coldwater beat Marion Local 3-1 on scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-21. Marion Local was undefeated in league play and Versailles had one loss. With Marion’s loss to Coldwater and Versailles’ 3-1 win over Delphos St. John’s, the two teams tie for the league championship, each at 8-1.

Riverside 3, Hardin Northern 1

DEGRAFF — Riverside finished Northwest Central Conference play at 7-1 with a 3-1 win over Hardin Northern Thursday night.

The Lady Pirates won 25-22, 15-25, 25-19, 25-19, and finished the regular season with an 18-4 record. They will next play in Division 3 Sectional action on Wednesday against the Russia-Yellow Springs winner at Troy.

Marissa Davis had 22 kills and 16 digs to lead the Lady Pirates over Northern. Shelby Giles had 11 kills and 11 service points, Alexis Snow had 16 assists, Helena Faulder 16 assists and Kristin Davidson 22 digs.

Wednesday

Sidney 3, Greenville 0,

Calvert sets ace record

Sidney capped off regular season play by ending its four-game losing streak Wednesday night in a home match against Greenville, 3-0 in high school volleyball action.

The 25-21, 26-24, 25-17 win gave the Lady Jackets a final regular-season mark of 11-11 and a Greater Western Ohio Conference American North record of 7-8.

The Lady Jackets return to action Monday at 7:30 at Centerville in Division 1 Sectional play against Tecumseh.

Highlighting the match was Kiana Calvert setting a new record for career ace serves. She had just one in the match, but it gave her 106 in her career, one more than the record held previously by Bri Wells-Barnes, who now plays for Edison State.

Amanda Thomas had 13 kills and four blocks against Greenville and Celena Taborn had eight kills and eight blocks. Carrie Nuss had 20 assists.

Calvert also led the defense with 13 digs.

The junior varsity also won, losing the first game 28-26 before rallying back to win 25-13, 25-19.

Arielle Snider pounded down 13 kills and had two solo blocks to lead Sidney, and Makali Gibson added 10 kills.

Payton Boshears had 10 digs and three aces, Allie Herrick added seven digs, and Faith Bockrath had 29 assists.
