TROY — Top-seeded Jackson Center made quick work, as expected, of Dayton Jefferson in a first-round Troy 1 Division 4 Sectional Tournament game Saturday at Troy High School.

The final was 3-0 and the scores were 25-1, 25-2, 25-4. The win put the defending D-4 state champions at 23-0 on the season and advanced them to a semifinal match against winless Bradford on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Troy.

Highlighting the win was a school record being set. Senior Alicia Kessler had 16 ace serves in the match, setting a new single-game record at Jackson Center.

Teammate Kamryn Elchert served nine aces, and both Cassie Meyer and Camryn Hoehne had six kills each.

Southeastern 3, Fairlawn 1

TROY — The Fairlawn Lady Jets were hoping for an upset in the first round of the Troy 2 Sectional Volleyball Tournament Saturday, and it nearly happened.

But the No. 6-seeded Lady Jets, after winning the first game handily, dropped the next three to third-seeded Southeastern to finish the season at 11-12.

The Lady Jets won the first game 25-12, then lost 25-22, 25-19, 29-27.

Southeastern now advances to play another County team, 16th-seeded Botkins, in the semifinals on Wednesday at 7:30 at Troy.

Several Lady Jet seniors put put the finishing touches on outstanding careers, with Audrey Francis getting 32 kills and 39 digs, senior Chelsie Brautigam 32 assists, and senior Jeanelee Branscum 21 digs. Sophomore Lauren Dudgeon added 15 kills.

Russia 3, Yellow Springs 0

TROY — The Russia Lady Raiders advanced to meet fifth-seeded Riverside in the semifinals with a 3-0 win over Yellow Springs in another first-round match Saturday in the Troy 2 Sectional.

The scores were 25-14, 25-10, 25-14, and it gave the No. 9-seeded Lady Raiders a 12-11 record heading into a semifinal meeting with fifth-seeded Riverside, which is 18-4, Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Troy.

“It was nice to get that first tournament win under our belts,” said Russia coach Aaron Watkins. “Now we have to get ready for Riverside Wednesday.”

Cameo Wilson had 11 kills and both Laurissa Poling and Claudia Counts added six apiece for the Lady Raiders.

Jenna Cordonnier had 22 assists and defensive specialist extraordinaire Whitney Pleiman added to her single-season and career record digs with 21.

Chloe Sherman had four aces, Pleiman added three and Poling two. Poling also had three blocks and Claudia Counts added six digs.

Division 3

Anna 3, Indian Lake 0

NEW LEBANON — The Anna Lady Rockets cruised to a 3-0 win over Indian Lake in Brookville 1 Division 3 first-round sectional play at Dixie High School Saturday.

The scores were 25-12, 25-17, 25-14 and the win put Anna at 13-10 on the season and advanced the fifth-seeded Lady Rockets to the semifinals on Wednesday at Brookville High School against 13th-seeded Greeneview, which defeated Madison 3-0 Saturday.

Game time Wednesday is 7:30.

Krista Gehret had 10 kills and both Emma Meyer and Kennedey Glover added eight kills each. Ashley Landis added seven.

Lexi Wells had 25 assists and 12 digs, and Kelsey Meyer led the defense with 13 digs.
