Erin Ivey ran up on a ball booted toward the goal by Emily Wiesenmayer, and got to it before the Xenia goalie Saturday night, putting it into the net to give the Lady Jackets a 3-2 thriller in Division 1 Sectional soccer semifinal action at Sidney High School.

The victory gave the Lady Jackets a 12-4-1 record and a spot in the sectional finals on Tuesday against No. 2-seeded and 10th-ranked in the state Beavercreek. The game is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Northmont High School.

The Jackets had to play from behind most of the night. Xenia scored 12 minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead. Sidney got a goal from Wiesenmayer, but Xenia scored again for a 2-1 lead at the break.

Sidney got the tying goal from Kayli Smith, assisted by Erin Ivey, and the game stayed at 2-2 the rest of regulation.

The Lady Jackets then took just three minutes to score in overtime.

“The girls pulled it off,” said Sidney coach Kevin Veroneau. “We had opportunities to pull away but we just didn’t take advantage. But the girls didn’t want to lose their last game at home.

“We played well enough to win this game, but we’re going to have to pick it up for Beavercreek,” he added. “We had a couple of mistakes in the back against Xenia and we won’t be able to do that Tuesday.”
