Minster to battle NewBremen for district title

VAN WERT —It will be Minster taking on New Bremen for the Division 4 District volleyball championship tonight, after both were victorious on Tuesday in semifinal play at Van Wert High School.

Minster, the No. 3 seed, defeated second-seeded Marion Local 3-2 in a thriller. The scores were 25-13, 17-25, 10-25, 25-16, 15-11.

The win put the Lady Wildcats at 16-8 on the year heading into the championship tonight at Van Wert at 6 p.m.

Minster got 16 kills from Jordyn Heitbrink, seven from Rosie Westerbeck and five apiece from Paige Thobe and Carly Barhorst. Hayley Baumer had 31 assists.

Paige Purdy led the defense with 26 digs, Heitbrink added 16 and Baumer 15.

Minster had nine service aces in the game, four of them by Westerbeck.

New Bremen 3, Ottoville 0

VAN WERT — In the other semifinal Thursday in D-4 action at Van Wert, New Bremen posted a 3-0 win over Ottoville.

The top-seeded Lady Cardinals won 25-11, 25-20, 25-20 to run their record on the year to 21-3 heading into the finals tonight against neighboring Minster.

Paige Jones pounded out 29 kills for the Lady Cardinals to run her season total to a state-record 715 so far.

Jones also had nine ace serves, and Rachel Kremer added nine kills. Madison Pape finished with 39 assists.
