BELLEFONTAINE — Sidney High’s bowling teams competed in the Holiday Baker Bash at T-P Lanes in Bellefontaine Friday.

The Jacket boys team was hoping to repeat as champions, but didn’t get past the first game in match play after qualifying sixth after 10 games. They drew Wayne in the first round and had little chance of winning when the Warriors rolled a 269 game.

“There isn’t much we can do when a team gets hot and shoots a 269 game,” said Sidney coach Trent Knoop. “We just have to applaud them and move on. We didn’t help ourselves today during qualifying though, which is why we got a low seed. Too many mistakes. But it was a good learning experience. Overall, we are a young team, and the lanes were extremely dry. Our balls were hooking a ton, so it was a new experience. It’s good to see these lane conditions early in the season, so we know how to beat it next time. We are having a good season, and one tournament doesn’t change that.”

The Jackets wound up sixth.

The girls team bowled well, qualifying third after 10 games and advancing all the way to the semifinals before losing to Beavercreek. But the Lady Jackets took home third place.

“This was far and away the best we have bowled this season, and it was the best finish at a tournament,” Knoop said. “We bowled so good as a team. We have won the last two matches, and the confidence in carrying over. All eight girls had an impact today. They all got a chance, and they all did something to contribute. Jenna Beatty and Heather Gold were both superb today. Also, a shoutout to freshman Camryn Smith. She is on the JV team, but she has had some good practices, so we brought her to the tournament today. She did an outstanding job.”

Sidney returns to action Thursday at Pla-Mor Lanes in Dayton against Stebbins.
