Edison teams both win big

PIQUA — The Edison State men’s and women’s basketball teams were both victorious over visiting Clark State in college basketball action Wednesday night at the Piqua campus.

Women

The Lady Chargers rolled to an easy 74-45 victory over Clark State to win their fifth in a row and run their record on the year to 9-3 heading into another home game today against Southern State.

Edison jumped out to a 15-6 lead after a quarter and stretched it to 38-16 at the half.

Carly Buzzard, a Wapakoneta High School grad, was red-hot from the field, hitting 9-for-11 and finishing with 20 points. She also added seven rebounds for the Lady Chargers.

Riley Culver, also from Wapak, added a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Riverside grad Brooke Hickey finished with 11 points. Sydney Miller, an Indian Lake grad, had four assists and Culver added three.

Edison finished 32 for 72 from the field for 44 percent for the game, but struggled a bit at the line, hitting 7-for-14. The Lady Chargers outrebounded Clark by one, 44-43.

Men

The Edison men upped their record on the year to 8-4 with a lopsided win over Clark State, 74-39.

The Chargers also return to action today against Southern State.

Clark State scored first, but Edison took over after that, building up a 41-18 bulge at the half. The 39 points the Chargers allowed marked their best defensive performance of the season.

DaeShawn Jackson of Springfield led the way for Edison with 15 points and five assists, and Dusty Poteet from Troy Christian added 13 points and five rebounds. Zach Ledbdetter, of Vandalia, added 11 points and hit three three-pointers.

Christopher Landrum, also a Troy Christian grad, had five assists and Wayne grad Hadith Tiggs added four.

The Chargers finished the game 29 for 61 from the field for 48 percent and were 7-for-10 from the line.
