Loramie gets by Anna 42-34

ANNA — Fort Loramie held Anna to just 10 points in the first half and went on to hand the Lady Rockets a 42-34 setback in County girls basketball action thursday.

It was a big win for Loramie, which was trying to stay just one game behind Russia and Jackson Center in the County standings. The Lady Redskins are now 5-2 in the league and 9-4 overall and are back in action Saturday with a big test at home against undefeated backyard rival Minster.

Anna, meanwhile, was going for its fourth win in a row, but couldn’t get much going against the Loramie defense. The Lady Rockets drop to 2-4 in the league and 6-6 overall and play at home Tuesday against Marion Local.

Loramie held Anna to just 13 for 41 from the field, 32 percent, in getting the win.

Reyan Frey had 16 and Hattie Meyer 12 to lead Fort Loramie. Meyer dropped in 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

For Anna, Breah Kuck finished with 10 points.

Minster 65, St. Henry 43

MINSTER — Minster coasted to its 11th straight win, beating St. Henry 65-43 in Midwest Athletic Conference play Thursday at Minster.

The Lady Wildcats are 11-0 and 4-0 in the league and are at Fort Loramie Saturday.

Rosie Westerbeck had 21, including 12 in the second quarter when Minster pulled out from a 16-11 lead after one to a 40-17 bulge at the half.

Lindsay Roetgerman added 18 points, and seven of those came in the first quarter.

Fort Recovery 39, NB 29

FORT RECOVERY — New Bremen stayed right with unbeaten Fort Recovery in Midwest Athletic Conference play Thursday, but came up short in a 39-29 loss in action at Recovery.

New Bremen is now 0-4 in MAC play and 4-8 overall and hosts St. Henry Saturday. Recovery is now 9-0.

The two teams were deadlocked at 14 at the half but Bremen managed just two points in the third quarter.

Jane Homan’s nine led the Lady Cardinals.

Versailles 52, Marion 32

MARIA STEIN — Marion Local stormed out of the locker room and scored the first six points of the game against Versailles, but after that, it was all Lady Tigers in a 52-32 victory in MAC play Thursday night at Marion Local.

The win put Versailles at 12-1 overall and 5-0 in the MAC heading into a big rivalry match Saturday at home against the Russia Lady Raiders.

Versailles came back from the 6-0 deficit thanks to a pair of three-pointers from Kami McEldowney and by the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tigers were up 19-11. They then went out in the second quarter and held Marion Local to just two free throws to open up a 30-13 bulge.

McEldowney finished with 18 to lead Versailles.
