PIQUA — The Edison State women’s basketball team added two more victories to its season total over the weekend, defeating both Southern State at home and Hocking College on the road.

Edison beat Southern 95-61 on Friday, rolling to a 40-27 lead at the intermission.

Five Lady Chargers finished in double figures, led by Sydney Miller with 21 on 8-for-11 field goal shooting.

Riley Culver had 15 points, 14 rebounds and six assists, Carly Buzzard added 18 points and seven rebounds, Brooke Hickey had 16 points and three assists, and Lauren Monnin had 11 points.

The Lady Chargers put up 91 shots in the game, hitting 42 for 46 percent. They were 5-for-6 from the line.

They also held Southern to just 27 percent shooting from the field, 21 for 78.

• The Lady Chargers came back on Saturday and made the long trip to Hocking College worth it with a 75-52 win, sparked by a 24-8 lead after one quarter.

Culver finished with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, and flirted with a triple-double, adding seven blocked shots.

Carly Buzzard added 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Chargers were 29-for-60 from the field for 48 percent and 13-for-20 from the line for 65 percent.

The two victories upped coach Tim McMahon’s squad to 11-3 on the season heading into a big challenge tonight at Owens Community College, which is 17-0 so far this season and has gone past the 100-point mark in seven of those games.

The Lady Chargers will be back home Friday against Wright State-Lake before going on the road to face Columbus State Saturday.

Men

The Edison men built up a 46-30 lead at the half and went on to defeat Southern State Friday 81-61.

The Chargers had five players in double figures, led by Christopher Landrum with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. He also had three assists.

Hadith Tiggs had 13 points and six rebounds, Dae’Shawn Jackson 12 points and seven boards, and Dusty Poteet 11 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots. Zach Ledbetter added 11 points.

Edison canned 33 of 72 fielders for 46 percent and was 6-for-9 from the line. The Chargers also owned the boards by a 53-35 count.

• On Saturday, the Chargers made the trip to Hocking College and won a tight one, 89-83.

The Chargers took a nine-point lead at the half, but Hocking rallied back to tie the game up at 52 with 15:32 remaining.

Edison pulled out to as much as a 10-point lead after that, but Hocking came back to cut the margin to three. But Edison responded with good free-throw shooting to protect the lead, hitting 7 of 8 in the last minute of play.

Jackson led the Chargers with 22 points and was one of five players in double figures.

Tiggs had 18 and Landrum 16, AJ Hickman added 11 and Ledbetter finished with 10.

The two wins put the Chargers at 10-4 heading into action tonight at 12-5 Owens Community College. They will also be back home Friday night against WSU-Lake before heading to Columbus State Saturday.
