The Sidney High bowling team celebrated having its first home match of the season Tuesday by setting two new school records in defeating the Troy Trojans.

In the first game, the Yellow Jackets bowled a 1233, which is a new record for a single team game. And they added a 1055 in the second game and 386 in baker for a final score of 2674, which is also a new school record.

It led to an easy victory, the Jackets winning by 618 pins over the Trojans.

The win put Sidney at 6-0 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference American North Division, and the Jackets are now 9-0 overall heading into another division matchup today at Piqua.

“What a night,” said Sidney coach Trent Knoop. “Obviously, this was the most complete match the boys have had all season. Everyone was running on all cylinders. I made it known that Troy was a good team, and they would be coming for us. We have to win at our home house against the good teams. The focus level was great tonight. Such a fun match.”

Austin Simon led the onslaught for the Jackets, finishing with an impressive 514 series on games of 267 and 247.

Josh Abbott wasn’t far behind, rolling a 258 and a 225 for a 484, and Matt Elliott came in with a 450 on a pair of 225 games.

Sean Martin had a 430 on a 219 and a 211, and Lucas Finke had just one game and it was a good one, a 264.

Sidney’s junior varsity boys also won and remain unbeaten this season as well.

• The Sidney High girls didn’t fare as well against Troy, rolling an 1858 to 2224 for the unbeaten Lady Trojans.

“The Troy girls might be the best team in the state again this season,” said Knoop. “We would need to have all five girls clicking at the same time, and we didn’t have that this time. They have competed hard the last few months, and one match doesn’t change that. We are still bowling well as a team, and I look for them to get back on track Thursday against Piqua.”

Heather Gold had a 407 series, starting out with a 235 and adding a 172.

Jenna Beatty had a 343 on games of 182 and 161, and Kathryn Saunders had a 302 with a 141 and a 161.

The junior varsity girls lost a close match to the Lady Trojans.
