Taborn sets single-season mark

Sidney High senior Celena Taborn set a new single-season scoring record Saturday, and moved within four points of the career mark in Sidney’s 57-52 victory over Greenville in the regular-season finale at Sidney.

Taborn scored 23 points to give her 589 this season, a 26.8 scoring average.

She got Sidney off to a good start Saturday with eight in the first quarter, but she ended up having lots of help offensively in the tight game. Alina Kindle had 13 and Hayley Powers added 10.

Minster 66, Anna 35

MINSTER — Minster rolled to a 38-15 lead at the half and went on to whip the Anna Lady Rockets in non-league girls action on Saturday at Minster, 66-35.

The Lady Wildcats go to 18-2 on the season heading into a challenging week, starting with Tuesday at home against Wapakoneta. Then on Thursday comes the game at home with Fort Recovery. Minster is 8-0 in Midwest Athletic Conference play and Fort Recovery 6-2, but a win by Recovery would allow once-beaten Versailles to get a share of the title.

Anna finishes regular season play with a 10-12 record and is back in action Saturday in Division 3 sectional play at Franklin-Monroe against West Milton at 5 p.m.

Ali Borgerding hit a pair of three-pointers and Rosie Westerbeck had seven points in the opening quarter Saturday, leading to an 18-4 bulge after one.

Westerbeck wound up with 17 points for the Lady Wildcats, Courtney Prenger had 12 and Alli Fischer added 10.

Anna did not have anyone finish in double figures.

Versailles 40, JC 28

JACKSON CENTER — Versailles jumped out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter and Jackson Center was unable to recover in losing 40-28 to the visiting Lady Tigers in non-league action at Jackson Saturday.

The loss leaves Jackson Center at 16-4 on the year heading to Riverside on Tuesday to complete regular season play.

Versailles is finished with their regular season schedule and takes a 19-3 record into tournament play Thursday against Triad at Franklin-Monroe.

Troy Christian 47, Lehman 42

Lehman led by eight points at the half but Troy Christian rallied in the final two periods to beat the Lady Cavs 47-42 in non-league girls basketball Saturday at Lehman.

The game was Lehman’s final one in the regular season and gives them a 9-12 mark going into tournament play on Saturday at Sidney against Russia.

Lehman was up 24-16 after one and still led by three after three quarters. But Troy Christian outscored the Lady Cavs 18-8 in the final eight minutes.

For Lehman, Hannah Fogt had 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Grace Monnin had eight rebounds.
