Huge week for Bollinger

Staff report

It was an amazing week at the plate for Riverside graduate and Sidney Legion alum Dalton Bollinger this week at the University of Toledo.

Bollinger hit an even .500 in four games — all victories — for the Rockets, getting 10 hits in 20 at-bats to elevate his team-leading batting average to .319.

He doubled the number of doubles he has this season, with seven in those four games to give him a team-high 14 so far. And he also belted a pair of homers to bring his total for the year to four.

It started with a 3-for-4 game in a 4-3 win over Buffalo. He had an RBI double and a solo home run, and drove in two.

Then came a wild game with Buffalo, won by Toledo 21-20. Bollinger went 3-for-7 and all the hits were doubles. He scored three times and drove in two.

Then in a 7-6 win over Buffalo, he was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the first inning. His other hit was a double.

The Rockets then took on Dayton and Bollinger had two doubles in five trips and drove in a run.

He is currently on an 11-game hitting streak, and now has 26 RBIs, has scored 23 runs and is tops on the team in slugging percentage at .528.

Toledo has won six of its last seven, thanks in large part to Bollinger, and is now 14-23 on the season.

Connor Echols, Sidney — Echols also had a good week, with hits in five straight games for the Dayton Flyers to extend his hitting streak to seven. He had one hit in each of three games against George Mason, was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a win over Eastern Kentucky, and blasted a three-run homer in a loss to Toledo.

He is now hitting .271, and leads the team in hits with 39, in doubles with eight and in RBIs with 21. He also has two homers and has scored 17 runs for the Flyers, who are 11-25 on the year.

Caitlin Stoner, New Bremen — Stoner played long ball twice this week for Urbana University in women’s softball, bringing her season total to seven, which ties her for second most in the Mountain East Conference. She had a two-run homer in a 4-2 win over West Virginia State, a two-run homer in a 10-9 loss to WV State, and was 2-for-3 with an RBI double and two runs scored in a 5-4 win over Charleston. On Thursday, she had another two-run homer in a loss to Virginia-Wise.

She is hitting .323 with 31 hits, eight doubles, two triples, 27 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Josh Robinson, Anna — Robinson had a good outing on the mound for the University of Findlay this week. In a 5-4 loss to Walsh, Robinson was called on to pitch 31/3 innings in relief, and allowed two hits and no runs, with no walks and two strikeouts. He has now worked 21 innings this season and allowed 20 hits, 11 runs, all earned, with five walks and 21 strikeouts. His earned run average stands at 4.71.

Jace Barga, Versailles — Barga is playing baseball at Wittenberg, and had a couple of good games this week. He was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI in a 3-2 loss to Walsh, and 2-for-4 with a run scored in a 2-1 win over Walsh. He is hitting .307 with 23 hits in 75 trips, had 12 RBIs and has scored 10 runs.

Micalah Hensley, Houston — Hensley was 1-for-3 in a 2-1 Wilmington win over Baldwin-Wallace this week, and that hit was a big one, a double in the top of the seventh that led to her scoring what proved to be the winning run. She has 22 hits on the year and is hitting .259.

Jacob Lochard, Sidney — Lochard plays baseball at Ohio Northern and got the Bears off to a good start in a 12-1 win over Muskingum with an RBI single in the first inning. He also walked and scored a run.

Maria Heckman, Minster — Heckman, a sophomore at Wright State, finished 11th in the pole vault at the All-Ohio Championships, held last week at Cincinnati. She cleared 3.3 meters (10 feet, 8 inches).
