VANDALIA — Fourth-ranked Vandalia defeated the Sidney Yellow Jackets for the second night in a row Tuesday, 10-0 in five innings in Greater Western Ohio Conference American North division baseball action.

The loss left the Yellow Jackets at 1-10 in the North and 5-16 on the season. Vandalia moves to 18-2.

The Aviators nailed down the win early on, scoring five in the first and two in the second.

Sidney was held to just three singles by Vandalia’s Tyler Burley, who struck out six.

Bremen 7, Knoxville 2

NEW KNOXVILLE — The New Bremen Cardinals scored three in the first and never trailed in beating New Knoxville 7-2 in Midwest Athletic Conference play Tuesday night.

The win puts Bremen at 2-3 in the league and 9-8 overall. New Knoxville is 0-5 and 5-7.

New Bremen got a single and a triple from hot-hitting Luke Vonderhaar. He also walked twice and scored three times. Grant Selby scored two runs and both Ryan Bertke and Nolan Bornhorst had two runs batted in.

For New Knoxville, Nick Topp was a tough out, going 3-for-3 with a double.

Three Knoxville pitchers held the Cardinals to just four hits, but the Rangers couldn’t overcome seven walks and four errors.

Bertke pitched the first six for New Bremen and allowed four hits, with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

Nathan Merges started for Knoxville and pitched five innings, leaving with nine strikeouts.

Versailles 8, Minster 1

VERSAILLES — Minster ran into a tough pitcher in Cole Niekamp of Versailles, and managed just two hits in losing 8-1 in MAC action Tuesday at Versailles.

The verdict left both teams at 2-3 in the conference and 12-6 overall.

Niekamp overpowered the Wildcats — in addition to pitching a two-hitter, he also struck out 11 in a dominating effort.

Minster’s only run came in the top of the first and gave the Wildcats an early lead. But that was it, and Versailles scored the next eight, including one in the first and two in the second to take the lead for good.

Versailles was led at the dish by Kurtis Rutschilling, who went 3-for-3. Jacob Heitkamp was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs, Noah Richard was 2-for-2 and scored twice, and Kyle Subler singled and doubled.
