Staff report

Four county teams got together for a track and field tri-meet at Fairlawn Tuesday, and highlighting the day was a new school record.

Josh Miller of Botkins, the leader in the shot and discus all season long in the honor roll, broke his own school record in the shot put when he unleashed a heave of 58 feet, 8.5 inches to take first place.

That shattered the mark he set earlier this season of 57-3.

He also won the discus with a toss of 158 feet, 10 inches, and as good as that mark is, it’s still about five feet shy of his best this season.

He led the Trojans to the team title with 65 points. They were followed by Fairlawn with 54, Jackson Center with 26 and Christian Academy with 22.

Botkins also got a pair of wins from Micah Smock, who continues to impress in the hurdles. He won both the 110s and the 300s.

Fairlawn was led by Nick Brautigam and Nathan Lessing.

Brautigam won the 800 and 1600 runs, and Lessing took first in the 100 and 100 dashes.

• Jackson Center won the girls meet with 58, to 46.5 for Botkins, 36.5 for Fairlawn and 20 for Christian Academy.

Kennadie Reese won the 100 dash and the long jump for the Lady Tigers, who also won three of the four relays.

The top performer in the meet was Hannah Bailey of Botkins, who won three events. She showed versatility by winning the high jump, the 200 dash and the 1600 run.

Teammate Adriana Jutte was strong in the hurdles again, winning both the 100 and 300 events.
