VANDALIA — For the second week in a row, the Sidney Yellow Jackets got off to a bad start, and for the second week in a row, it cost them in a loss in Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division play.

The Vandalia Butler Aviators forged a 22-0 lead at the half and rolled from there to a 29-0 victory over the Jackets, who dropped their second straight and are now 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the North. They play their final home game of the season next Friday night against the Troy Trojans.

Vandalia goes to 2-0 in the North and 5-2 overal and keeps its playoff hopes alive with the win.

Last week, Trotwood returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Friday night, the Aviators’ Logan Flatt returned the kick to midfield, and it took the Aviators just four plays to reach the endzone, the score coming on a touchdown pass from Chandler Craine to Tray Sanders. A two-point conversion made it 8-0.

After Sidney was forced to punt, Vandalia returned the kick to the Sidney 35. This time it took just three plays, with the score coming on a one-yard run for a 14-0 lead with still 7:01 left in the first quarter.

The Sidney defense tightened up after that, but Vandalia took advantage of outstanding field position to add another score late in the second quarter. Vandalia chose to punt in Sidney territory and it was a good move, the Jackets taking over on their own two. A holding penalty was called in the endzone, giving the Aviators a safety, and they then took over on their own 48 after the Sidney kickoff.

Two middle screens hurt the Jackets, and the Aviators got in the endzone on a three-yard run for a 22-0 bulge at the break.

Sidney’s offense struggled, thanks mainly to five Vandalia sacks in the first half.

Sidney got an interception and a fumble recovery in the third quarter but couldn’t turn any of it into points. One drive stalled at the Vandalia one.
