Search for teenager swept into river now a recovery mission

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities in Tennessee say the search for a special-needs teenage boy who fell into the Mississippi River has now turned into a recovery mission.

News outlets report that 14-year-old David Dunn was hiking with his family Tuesday evening along the riverbank in Shelby Forest when he waded into the river, slipped on mud, and was swept away by the water near the boat dock.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Earle Farrell says Dunn could not swim.

Deputies say the Memphis Police Department’s Harbor Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard and the sheriff’s office have all participated in the search, which authorities are now calling a recovery mission.
