Man, 32, pleads guilty in ex-football player’s death


CLEVELAND (AP) — The man accused of fatally shooting a former Kansas State University football player outside a Cleveland nightclub has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Cleveland.com reports (http://bit.ly/2aIH86n ) 32-year-old Barry Blevins entered the plea Monday in the October 2014 slaying of 26-year-old David Garrett. The case was scheduled to go to trial Monday morning.

Authorities say Garrett was struck in the chest when Blevins fired into a crowd after a fight that began in a nightclub spilled outside.

Garrett earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors as a Kansas State defensive back in 2010 and 2011. He graduated from Thomas W. Harvey High School in Painesville, east of Cleveland and played arena football in Kansas City in 2013.

Blevins is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 31.
