Village ends contract with operators of sauerkraut festival

WAYNESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A southwest Ohio village has terminated its contract with the operators of a yearly sauerkraut festival in the hopes of forging a new agreement.

The Dayton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/2fZm5yd ) Mayor David Stubbs says Waynesville Village Council earlier this month ended its contract with the Waynesville Area Chamber of Commerce, organizer of the Ohio Sauerkraut Festival, over a disagreement about who should be held liable if hired security guards commit wrongdoing.

Chamber officials prefer to continue operating under the current contract set to expire in 2019. Both sides say they expect the event to be held next year.

About 350,000 people attend the annual event featuring arts, crafts, entertainment and lots of pickled cabbage.
