SHELBY COUNTY — The Community Foundation of Shelby County has announced the recipients of several scholarships to area students as follows:
Houston, Patterson Scholarships
Three Houston High School 2015 graduates have been awarded Mary E. Patterson Scholarships from the Hardin Houston Local School Foundation. Each student received $1,000.
Taylor Block is enrolled at Edison Community College with a major in dental hygiene. She is the daughter of James Block and Rhonda Cavender.
Carly Sue St. Myers, the daughter of Frank and Jenni St. Myers, is studying neuroscience at The Ohio State University.
Madison Young is a nursing student at Capital University. She is the daughter of Kelly Young and Dave Young.
This scholarship was established from the estate of former Piqua City Schools teacher, Mary Patterson, whose roots trace back to the Houston area.
Jackson Center, Robert E. Grubbs Foundation
Two Jackson Center High School graduates have received $500 scholarships from the Robert E. Grubbs Foundation.
Alison Burt, daughter of Jared and Krista Wildermuth, is studying early childhood education at Wright State University.
Morgan Dickman is enrolled in the medical assistant program at Rhodes State College. She is the daughter of Scott and Jodi Dickman.
The Robert E. Grubbs Foundation was established by Judy Grubbs in her husband’s memory to benefit seniors at Jackson Center High School.
Law Student Scholarships
The Law Student Assistance Fund recently awarded $1,500 scholarships to two students entering the final year of law school.
Will Gutmann of Piqua is attending the The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. He is a graduate of Lehman Catholic High School and The Ohio State University and is the son of Mike and Elizabeth Gutmann.
Jessica Sink, daughter of Joel and Cindy Sink, of Arcanum, graduated from Arcanum High School and Miami University. She is currently enrolled at Ohio Northern University College of Law.
The Law Student Assistance Fund was established by the late Sidney attorney Eugene Elsass. Applicants must be approaching their final year of law school. Students from Shelby County, or a county abutting Shelby County, may apply.
Sidney, Dr. Edward and Anne Link Scholarship
Jordan Miller, a 2014 Sidney High School graduate, was this years’ recipient of the $2,500 Dr. Edward and Anne Link Scholarship. Jordan, son of Teresa Jenkins, is studying musical theatre at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
Shelby County residents pursuing a fine arts major who have completed at least one year of post-secondary education may apply for the scholarship. Visual arts, performing arts and creative writing majors qualify for the scholarship.
Ross Family Scholarships
Two Sidney High School graduates and one Lehman Catholic High School graduate have been named recipients of William A. Ross Jr. Family Scholarships. The fund was established in memory of the late Sidney industrialist and historian.
Allison Fair, a Sidney High School graduate, is attending University of Toledo with a young adult English education major. Her parents are Jace and Sandy Fair.
Rheanna Kies is studying pharmacy at University of Findlay. She is a Sidney High School graduate and is the daughter of Elmer Jr. and Kimberly Kies.
Jackson Watkins graduated from Lehman Catholic High School and is an International Studies major at Miami University. He is the son of Julie and Rich Watkins.
