Miami East falls in D-3 statevolleyball, St. Henry advances

FAIRBORN — The Miami East Lady Vikings lost in the Division 3 semifinals Thursday in the State Volleyball Tournament at The Nutter Center.

Gilmour Academy won a close match 3-1, despite Miami East taking the first game 28-26. Gilmour came back to take the next three 25-20, 25-22, 25-21 and is now 25-3 on the season.

Miami East’s season ends with a 23-5 record.

Lady Viking sophomore standout Jonny Parker had 21 kills, 17 assists and seven digs to lead her team, and Emma Monnin and Kyndall Hellyer both had 10 kills each. Lindsay Black led the defense with 20 digs.

Gilmour now moves on to face No. 1-ranked St. Henry, which defeated Tuscarawas Valley in the first D-3 semifinal Thursday, 3-1. The scores were 25-15, 23-25, 30-28, 25-12.

St. Henry is now 28-0 on the season.

Claudia Heitkamp had 12 kills and Ellie Stammen and Olivia Niekamp 11 apiece for St. Henry. Katie Gerlasch led the defense with 23 digs and Madison Broering had 41 assists.
