April 15, 1916
Administration officials in Washington declared today that American troops will be withdrawn immediately from Mexico, if the death of Pancho Villa is confirmed. Reports reaching El Paso and other border cities indicated that the bandit leader died of gangrene resulting from a wound.

The trial of Thomas Williams, charged with murder in the first degree, was begun in common pleas court before Judge Mathers this morning. Williams is charged with the murder of Walter West at the construction camp south of Sidney in August last year. The case for the state is being conducted by Prosecuting Attorney Mills, and Williams is represented by S.L. Wicoff and Harry K. Forsyth.

Members of city council at their meeting last evening passed, under suspension of the rules an ordinance providing for the regulation of taxi cabs in the city and licensing of all people engaged in the taxi business. In other action, council authorized the moving of a house south of Monarch to the Highland Avenue playground at an expenditure of $140. The building will be used as a community house for children in that section of the city.

A flying service will be established here in the near future for the purpose of giving flying lessons and the handling of charter work. It will be known as the Miami Valley Flying Service. Ben Dowell will operate the new service and expects to start by May 1. For the present the flying field will be located on the William Bauer farm south of the city.

April 15, 1966
A Sidney junior high school boy and three Shelby County pupils will add their exhibits to hundreds of others at the state Science Day at Ohio State University this Saturday. Sidney’s entry is Bruce E. Baker, ninth grader at Central Junior High, whose project shows the effects of smoking on hamsters. From Shelby County there are Janis Elene Finkenbine, Anna High School, an entry in zoology; and two pupils from Jackson Center, Rick McGowan, physics; and Marcia Metz, zoology.

MINSTER – Kenneth J. Eiting, R.R. 1, Minster, has six registered Brown Swiss cows in is herd that recently completed twice-daily milking records showing an average of over 14,000 pounds of milk and more than 500 pounds of butterfat in a 305-day period. Top producer in the herd, Tamarind Helen, six years and six months old, had a mark of 18,570 pounds of milk and 768 pounds of butterfat.

“Jewel of the Nile” was the theme of the Fort Loramie prom at the high school gymnasium, which saw Jill Kemper and Jason Gaerke crowned as prom queen and king.

Employees of the Waffle House restaurant, 317 Folkerth Ave., hoist the trophies they won for being named the No. 1 Waffle House in Ohio during March. The awards were based on increase in total sales, increase in first shift sales and cleanliness. Holding the trophies are Pamela Rookard, Joyce Simpson and John Iman, Jr.
