SIDNEY — The 67th anniversary of their graduation from Sidney High School was observed by members of the class of 1949 during a luncheon, July 28, at the American Legion hall in Sidney.
John Laws gave a prayer and welcomed class members and their guests. Letters were read from members who could not attend, including one from class president Dick Conrad and his wife, Jean, of The Villages, Florida.
The class had established a scholarship fund administered by the the Community Foundation of Shelby County. Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually, one to a recent high school graduate and one to an older alumnus. The 2016 recipients were Quentin McKenzie and Rheanna Kies.
The reunion committee comprised Jinny Shreves, Patsy Maxwell, Phyllis Piper and Norma Schlagetter.
Class members attending from out of town were Ray Cotterman, of Beaufort, North Carolina, Ruth Dickhaut Hartzell, of Cincinnati, Herb Fogt, of Troy, Larry Hawkins, of National City, Michigan, and Balboa Park, Florida, Phyllis Clayton Clinehens, of Maplewood, and Wilbur Molitor, of Russells Point.
Local attendees were Tom and Norma Schlagetter, Tom Given, Dick Carey, John Laws, Ronnie Laughlin, Beverly Baker Patrick, Jean Cox Barhorst, Lois Sullenberger Schmidt, Roy Bulle, Phil Ruese, Patsy Sargeant Maxwell, Phyllis Wiessinger Piper and Virginia Moon Shreves.
Guests were Linda Goodwin, of Cedar Island, North Carolina, Brenda Ryan, of Cincinnati, Ada Fogt, of Troy, and Mivi Given, Phyllis Carey, Edna Mae Laws and June Laughlin, all of Sidney.
